Sponsorship of the second wind-instrument-class at the Comprehensive School in Bielefeld

Tuba, Flute or Clarinet?

A donation funded the purchase of a whole set of new wind instruments for the school year 2011/2012 at the Comprehensive School in Stieghorst..

It was possible to provide 30 children with one instrument each. Pupils of year 5 and 6 have the opportunity to learn to play a wind instrument.

Which instrument is the right one for me? Tuba or saxophone?

Before the children choose one specific instrument the director of the project, Stephanie Delius, offers a kind of “merry-go-round of instruments”, which means that each child tries out one of the instruments on offer for a few days: flutes, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, trombones, a euphonium and a tuba pass on from one child to the next. Only after every child has tested every instrument to the full are the children allowed to voice their preferences – three each. The allocation of the instruments is undertaken according to aptitude and size of the children: The instrument must correspond to the child!
